My Top Ten List!

On a daily basis, I get asked the question "So, how is it having three kids?" Although I normally just smile and say something like" it's busy", this Top Ten list has been floating around in my head for  awhile now.  Here is the truth to having three kids...

1.
First child:
Breakfast was always eaten at the breakfast table and consisted of perfectly diced fresh fruit, whole wheat toast (that was heart shaped) with low-fat peanut butter and a cup of low-fat milk.  Juice was a big no-no because it is loaded with sugar.

Third child:
Here are your ziplock baggies with microwaved pancakes and grapes.  Hurry up and grab a juice box and get in the car because we are running late...again!

2.
First child:
If the baby started crying in the car, I would pull the car over at the nearest safe place. Take the baby out of the car seat to change, feed or do whatever until the baby stopped crying. Then I would repeat this as many times as necessary.

Third child:
If the baby starts crying in the car, I take a quick look to see if it's anything life threatening, if not, I just turn the radio up!

3.
First child:
Going to the grocery store was a major fiasco.  I always had my shopping cart seat cover, full diaper bag filled with anything and everything the child could possibly need in the time we were shopping.  I would race through my shopping as fast as possible, because the thought of my baby starting to freak out in the middle of the store was just too much for me to handle.

Third child:
Wait...I get to go grocery shopping with only one child...sweet!!!

4.
First child:
I carried a ridiculously, fully loaded diaper bag (that probably weighed 20 pounds) everywhere the baby and I went.  My car trunk also had everything I could ever need for the baby, but walking to the car would mean my baby would have to wait 5 minutes to have his blanket (or whatever it was) and having my child wait 5 minutes was not an option.

Third child:
I just toss a few diapers and a pack of wipes in my purse, and we are good to go!  If the baby needs anything else, it's in the trunk.

5.
First child:
If we had a play date scheduled and the mom called to tell me her child had a runny nose, so sorry, but we would reschedule the play date, end.of.story.

Third child:
Unless your child is throwing up, we are meeting you for our play date.  I need some adult conversation and these kids have to get out of this house because they are making messes faster than I can clean.

6.
First child:
Eating at restaurants, consisted of a complete wipe down of the table, highchair and anything the baby could possibly touch.  A plastic disposable placemat was always used.  If a piece of food touched the table, the food was thrown away immediately.

Third child:
The 5 second rule applies (in most cases) when food touches the table.

7.
First child:
When I was out in public with my newborn, strangers would come up and say, "Congratulations on the new baby"all the time.

Third child:
When I am out in public with my newborn and two other children, strangers come up and say "Wow! You have your hands full" all. the. time.

8.
First child:
My child will never play video games at restaurants.

Third child:
Oh no, we forgot the video game...how will we get through dinner?!?

9.
First child:
I researched, read every review, and  had to have the best of every product available for baby.

Third child:
Thank you for the hand-me-downs, sweet friend!

10.
First child:
This child is my whole world, I can't imagine loving another baby as much as I love this child.

Third child:
This child is my whole world, I never knew I could love so much!  It is so true, your love is not divided, your love grows with each child!  I love all three of my babies with all my heart and I am so blessed to be their mommy!

  5. Very cute! I have four children, so I can totally relate. A {long} while back I got a funny email about the difference between having one child and multiple children. My favorite was: "With your first pregnancy, you are so excited about being pregnant you start wearing maternity clothes at 2 months. With your second pregnancy you are glad that you saved your maternity clothes. With your third pregnancy, your regular clothes ARE your maternity clothes." Haha! Funny how our perspectives change after having a few, huh? :) Thanks for the laugh!

  6. Haha! That is so true about the maternity clothes! I wore maternity clothes so early with the first, and by my third pregnancy I was totally dreading having to wear them at all! Thanks for stopping by! =)

  7. Love the post! I also have 3 kids (5, 3, and 1). I love comment # 7. We get that all the time too. That and "grandma's" in the store wanting to stop and tell us to enjoy the time because it goes so quickly as were trying to keep all three within arm's reach. I could also do a before baby vs after multiple baby's list. One of mine was no babies sleeping in our room, now I can't remember the last time I slept without a little person sleeping with a leg or arm on me.

  9. This post literally had me laughing out loud. I have one son right now, but we're hoping to add more to our family soon. I wouldn't mind having three little ones running around at all and this post gave me a real look at what life would be like. Here's what I learned: improvise and have a sense of humor! ;) Sounds like you have both skills. Congrats on having three little blessings.

  12. New to your blog and love your ideas. But this post had me laughing! I, too, have 3 kids - all boys. And I think we've lived the same life. Things do change with a little experience and a lot of relaxation, don't they?

  13. Hi Jenny!

Thank you! Yes, things definitely do change. Life with kids is so much more enjoyable when you relax a little and not sweat the small stuff. My third baby has been such a blessing and we are enjoying him so much!
